Which league(s) do you belong to?
None at the moment. I would like to join an OOTP Baseball league when I find the time.
Where are you from?
San Diego, CA
What do you do for work/school?
I was an aerospace engineer until I became a stay-at-home dad. I am also a property investor on the side. I graduated from UCSD with a BS in structural engineering.
Other personal life details (family, hobbies, etc)
I enjoy writing reviews and other sports gaming articles for this site! I have a 2-year-old son and a daughter on the way that’s due in early November 2020. I collect sports cards for fun and I’ve always been into sports boardgames of all kinds; Strat-O-Matic is a great one in particular.
Gaming experience
I’ve been playing sports games since the NES. My first sports game was “Baseball” on the NES. I also grew up playing EA NHL on Sega Genesis. I loved the “Bases Loaded” series as well as “Excitebike” and “MLBPA Sports Talk Baseball” on the Genesis. “World Series Baseball”, was another Genesis favorite of mine. I’ve played a couple of years in an MLB The Show league called MLB Dynasty League – let’s just say I didn’t finish in last place. I found I enjoy playing my own franchise saves more – because I can control the pace. Also, when I’m not playing online I relax and have more fun – I enjoy the leisurely pace offline.
What brought you to SSG?
It started with Mike Lowe’s Sliders for MLB The Show. Then I saw a tweet from SSG that mentioned an opportunity to write about video games. So I applied, and shortly thereafter, my first piece was published on the site, it can be found here: https://www.simsportsgaming.com/top-5-hopes-for-the-upcoming-madden-21-announcement/. I recently did two articles for SSG, one was about Bacon’s Fictional Rosters in MLB The Show and the second was a review of NBA 2K21 for current-gen. The links are below. https://www.simsportsgaming.com/mlb-the-show-20-bacons-fictional-roster-update/ https://www.simsportsgaming.com/nba-2k21-review/
Real life teams you support
San Diego Padres, Anaheim Angels, St. Louis Cardinals, New Orleans Saints, and the Anaheim Ducks. Being a San Diego native, I WAS a die-hard Chargers fan. It’s been really hard to support them after they left for L.A – I’m trying to be a fan again but I just don’t feel the connection. I also support the San Diego Gulls of the AHL.
Experience playing sports
I started playing sports probably before I could walk. I played baseball through high school. I played competitive Ice hockey in Canada and the United States – we often had professional scouts attend our games. Played football for one season in high school and also played some soccer. I have never played basketball on a team, but of course, I love shooting around. Surfing is still one of my favorite sporting activities; skateboarding is one that I wish I could still do but it’s definitely a young man’s sport.
Favorite sports movie
Field of Dreams is probably my favorite sports movie of all time, with Major League, and Youngblood as close seconds. I watched Field of Dreams over and over as a kid. I think this movie is why I started trying to build a baseball field in a small clearing in a canyon by my childhood home. Come to think of it, we never did finish that field.
Favorite sports-related quote
You’re never a loser until you quit trying. Mike Ditka
Something we’d be surprised to find out about you
I’m addicted to playing a mobile surfing game called “True Surf”. It’s very realistic and it has actual surf breaks that are located around the world. It is the official game of the WSL (World Surf League). I’m hoping (and so is the developer) that one day it will come to consoles or P.C. Does anyone remember Transworld Surf the video game? I think SkaterXL is fun and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 & 2 remake is more fun!
