Miguel Cabrera joins elite company with 600th career home run

Miguel Cabrera pounded his 600th career homer during the Tigers 3-1 loss to Cleveland. Miggy became just the 9th player in major league history to reach that mark.

The hit came in the 9th inning against former teammate Cody Allen. On a 0-2 count he blasted a 68mph curveball above the left field porch at Progressive Field. With an exit speed of 99.4mph it was his second hit of the game and only the 3rd one for the team.

Despite the loss the clubhouse was in good spirits as the Venezuelan slugger reached an important milestone that will cement his place as one of the greatest hitters of his generation. When asked about if he had more individual goals he wanted to pursue he said: “Someone asked if now I’m going for 700 but to be honest that seems far-fetched right now. Our PR guy told me I’m 98 hits away from reaching 2,500 as a Tiger and I think that’s the one I’m going after this season.”

The Tigers will celebrate his achievement tomorrow with a little ceremony minutes before their home game against the Royals.
