SSG Cardinals Claim SP Ivan Nova

In a surprise move, and just days after signing starting pitcher Yordano Ventura to a 5 year, 46 million dollar contract, the SSG St. Louis Cardinals claimed pitcher Ivan Nova off the waiver wire from the Baltimore Orioles. When reached for comment, GM Kevin Oaks replied, “We’ve had our eye out for one more quality pitcher to fill out our staff, and when we saw Ivan pop up on the wire, we felt it was a move we had to make. Ivan fits the profile we look for in a starting pitcher, and will be a great addition to this club.’ When asked about the hefty price tag, he added, “Mr. Dewitt cares more about wins than salaries, and with the players we’ve added in the last few weeks we feel we’re well positioned to improve greatly from last seasons disappointment. We have some exciting young pitchers moving up the ranks, and now we have a number of quality, seasoned veterans that will show these youngsters what it means to be a pro in this league. We couldn’t be more excited.’
