Hot Seat

The Firebirds won 73 games in 2020. The Firebirds have started a full media blitz campaign and it is showing in the fan response and season ticket sales. In addition, the Firebirds have been an active club this winter in the free agent market. Fans in Atlanta can be fickle about their baseball, and Atlanta management will need to continue to sell the fanbase on their team through media coverage. The Firebirds sit in the middle of the pack in minor league rankings at #14.
The Spiders won 66 games in 2020. The Spiders try their best to connect with their fanbase, and have done a respectable job. Recent innovations by the Spider’s public relations department with respect to league wide communication has gained accolades across the league.  The Spiders have been very active in player acquisitions this Winter and enjoy a nice duo with SP Joaquin Baker and OF Isael Soto as core talent. Cleveland still has a lot of work to do to build up its minor league system, which currently is ranked as #26 in the league.
The New York Yankees lost 112 games in 2020 and their management and fan base is irate, Yankee pride is at stake.  The Yankees have not been active in their media relations department until recently when their GM landed on a popular podcast and hinted at some strained relations between he and Hal Steinbrenner.  C Hugh Brooks and LF Manny Sanchez look to lead the charge back to respectability. Their GM is active in informal league communication but the media and public relations department have work to do.


Low

The Diamondbacks won 72 games in 2020. Young infielders Isan Diaz and Jeff Young look like franchise cornerstones, plus the farm system is ripe with prospects making the Diamondbacks the 2nd ranked system in baseball. What remains to be seen is if management has a plan to market and promote their young talent through the club’s media relations and public relations staff.
The White Sox won 72 games in 2020 and have admittedly entered a rebuilding phase, they are a proud original SSG supporter. The White Sox recently held a press conference and took questions and it was a breath of fresh air to the media and fans of the club. C Dan Combs and OF Andres de Aza provide a core moving forward. The White Sox have the league’s 7th ranked minor league system, so the tools appear to be there to carry out the intended rebuilding plans. 
The Reds won 80 games in 2020. The Reds have not yet been active this off season with their media relations. Catcher Salvador Perez is the backbone of the current roster. Some observers are concerned with the state of the Reds minor league system, currently ranked 22nd. The Reds are an original SSG supporter.
The Astros won 74 games in 2020. The Astros have not yet initiated their plan for media and fan relations for the 2021 season, but fans in Houston are eagerly awaiting more contact with their team. SS Carlos Correa and OF George Springer lead the Astros offensive attack.
An original supporter of SSG, the Royals won 73 games in 2020. The Royals have so far been quiet and calculating with their media relation, but fans are knocking at the door wanting more information released about ownership plans for the future.. The Royals have the 11th ranked minor league system by OSA and hope to take advantage of that to climb the ladder in the division.
The Dodgers won 87 games and a wild card berth in 2020. In LA, fan interest is spread out around so many major league franchises, it’s important that the Dodgers do more to reach out to the community and its fanbase.  Corner outfielders Giancarlo Stanton and Antonio Gallardo pack big time power.
The Twins won 77 games in 2020. An original supporter of SSG, the Twins have just recently activated their media relations and fans seem to be clamoring for more. The Twins are somewhat active in the SSG community, but there’s room for improvement. The Twins seemingly have found their face of the franchise in star 1B Amaurys Minier. The Twins may be facing an uphill climb as their minor league system is currently ranked #29 in MLB. This makes it even more important for ownership to draw in fans by marketing their stars.
The Mets won 78 games in 2020. The Mets try their best to connect with their fanbase, and have done a respectable job. Yasiel Puig, and Roderick Shoulders form a powerful middle of the lineup.  It will be interesting to see how ownership will handle the trade of Brett Lawrie to its fanbase. With the 27th ranked minor league system, it is likely the club is looking to add young talent for the future. Continuing to get the fans and media excited about their young core is the task in New York.
The Pirates won 71  games in 2020 and are a proud original supporter of the SSG community.. The Pirates seem to have avoided media interaction thus far, which may be a mistake as they try to market their young and rebuilding club.. Young 1B Clarence Bates looks like the franchise star in the present and future. He’s a shining example of a player in need of more exposure to the league as a whole. Pittsburgh has the 15th ranked minor league organization, it will be interesting to see if they are looking to climb that ladder through prospect acquisition at the trade deadline.
The Padres won 85 games in 2020.  Cy Young award winner Antonio Pacheco headlines the pitching staff with Jonas Lantigua as a premier offensive force. The league has reached out to San Diego management asking them to improve upon their efforts to market their tandem of young superstars to the fan base and league at large.
An original supporter of SSG, the Rays won 76 games in 2020. The Rays have not yet initiated their PR campaign for the 2021 season. The Rays are highly active and are a most valuable member of the SSG community in informal communication. The Rays have dipped into the relief market this offseason, signing Al Alburquerque and Will Smith. Their 9th ranked minor league system should provide support in the near future to their current core.
The inaugural season for the franchise after it’s relocation, the Aurora were a 70 win team in 2020.  The Aurora are an original supporter of SSG, they have recently begun their media relations campaign for the 2021 season, and they have been very active in the Winter trade market and free agent market as well.  Vancouver has MLB’s 12th ranked minor league organization.

Safe

 The Baltimore Orioles won 82 games in 2020 and their management was ecstatic to be able to finish above .500 in the tough AL East, traditionally dominated by Toronto and Boston. The Orioles have started to engage with their fan base through their marketing and public relations offices and the league has encouraged a continuation of that. The Orioles have the upcoming task of replacing an aging core of stars like Andrew McCutchen, Zach Grienke, and Greg Holland. This may be a difficult task considering the Orioles are currently ranked as #24 by OSA in minor league system rankings.
The defending World Series Champion Boston Red Sox won 96 games in 2020, securing the wild card berth into the playoffs.  An original supporter of SSG, the Red Sox have preferred to maintain an aura of mystique rather than actively engage with the media, although their GM is a favored guest on the SSG today podcast.. Management’s conservative build from within approach has been successful on the field, with their 10th ranked minor league system promising more talent on the way. The league would love to see them market all of their supreme talent of today and the future.
The Cubs won 86 games in 2020. The Cubs have this far avoided media contact. The Cubs are somewhat active in the SSG community, but there’s room for improvement. The Wrigley faithful are hoping for a more concentrated effort by management to engage with the fan base and media relations. The Cubs have the 19th rated minor league system.
The Tigers won 99 games and the AL Central in 2020. Despite this on field success they have missed out on opportunities to market their talent to the fanbase through their public relations and marketing staff. The Tigers are not very active in the SSG community, and it’s a concerning trend. The Tigers have a deep talent pool both on the current roster and in their minor league system with a host of talented ballplayers at the big level and baseball’s 6th ranked minor league system.
The Brewers won 72 games in 2020. Young catcher Blake Anderson has the look of a star for years to come. It remains to be seen if new management plans to actively engage with the community and media relations.
After a 62-100 win campaign in 2020, Oakland has welcomed new management into the organization. It remains to be seen if Oakland’s media department will engage with the community and be active within the SSG league. The Athletics have three prospects ranked within the top 50 via OSA scouting.
The Phillies won 95 games and a wild card berth in 2020 and they are an original SSG supporter. The Phillies media department could be more active in marketing all of their star players. Perennial MVP candidate Maikel Franco is the megastar face of the franchise, but critics have said that the fanbase doesn’t feel they are connected to the franchise player and that he is often not accessible to media and fans. Despite this, the Phillies talent pool is deep. The 95 win team also sports the 5th best minor league organization in baseball. They look like a force in the NL East for years to come.
The Giants won 77 games in 2020. The team has an active media department that consistently connects with their fan base. Winter acquisitions Nolan Arenado in free agency and Dominic Smith by trade figure to lead the Giants offensive attack. Once a top ten minor league organization, the Giants chose to use some of that depth to score major league players, with several OSA Top 10 rated players added on their big league roster.
The Cardinals won 89 games and the NL Central in 2020, and they are an original SSG supporter. St.Louis fans love their baseball and are clamoring for more engagement from the Cardinal front office and media relations staff. Three million fans coming through the turnstiles every year are hoping for more access and engagement with the club. Jarred Cosart, Yordano Ventura, and Ernesto Stainforth headline a strong starting rotation.
After a 77 win campaign in 2020, Texas has welcomed new management into the organization. It remains to be seen if Texas’ media department will engage with the community.

Untouchable

An original supporter of SSG, the Rockies won 92 games and the NL Pennant in 2020. The team has an active media department that consistently connects with their fan base. The Rockies are highly-active and are a most-valuable member of the SSG community. 1B Rowdy Tellez and INF Jurickson Profar are joined by free agent SS Andrelton Simmons in the always productive Rockies offense.
An original supporter of SSG, the Angels won 108 games in 2020, winning the AL West with the best record in baseball. The Angels have an active media department that consistently connects with their fan base. The Angels are highly active and are a most valuable member of the SSG community. The Angels feature a dynamic pitching trio of Gerrit Cole, Steven Matz, and Derek McGriff. Off season acquisitions of Addison Russel and Brett Lawrie have fans foaming at the mouth, but the feeling this year is that fans will be satisfied with nothing short of a championship. With the 27th ranked minor league system, how long can the Angels continue their impressive run?
An original supporter of SSG, the Mariners won 94 games in 2020 and an AL Wild Card berth. The Mariners try their best to connect with their fanbase, and have done a respectable job. The Mariners are highly active and are a most valuable member of the SSG community. Franchise stalwarts “King” Felix Hernandez and 3B Ryan McMahon headline the organization. The Mariners also pulled off an under the radar move in trading for Avisail Garcia and turning the trade of Christian Yelich into an overall positive. Seattle has the 21st ranked minor league system.
An original supporter of SSG, the Blue Jays won 100 games and the AL East in 2020. The team has not recently had any active media interaction. The Blue Jays are somewhat active in the SSG community, but there’s room for improvement. Franchise player Michael Choice was signed to a 6 year extension this Winter. The talent pool in Toronto may be the deepest in baseball, with several current top ten players and the #1 ranked minor league system. The league would love to see them market all of their supreme talent of today and the future.
The Nationals won 97 games and the AL East in 2020. An original supporter of the SSG community and active member, the Nationals feature a power packed lineup with the likes of Bryce Harper, Manny Machado, and Nomar Mazara. The league has reached out and asked the Nationals franchise to market their stars to the media and the community as fans of the team have clamored for more information and interaction.
