The Oakland Athletics faced a tough opponent in Chicago pitcher Rocky Thompson, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Rate Field by a final score of 10-6. Thompson went 6.1 innings and allowed 4 runs. With the win, Oakland improves its record to 13-17.
Oakland first baseman Miguel Mercedes helped the Athletics go up, 7-5, in the top of the seventh inning. With the game tied, Mercedes hit a 2-run single off Chicago pitcher Jesús Mejía.
"I like the vibe in the clubhouse after a win," said Mercedes. "It sure beats the alternative."
