Mets Deal Washington 5-1 Defeat
|
The New York Mets knocked off the Washington Nationals, 5-1, in National League action at Citi Field. New York pitcher and Springfield, Oregon, native P.J. Burton had an outstanding performance. Burton, the winner, moves to 2-1. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 7 and giving up 2 walks. Washington falls to 18-12.
The Mets got a big at-bat from designated hitter Héctor Cabrera. For the game, Cabrera went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 6th home run of the season gave New York a 3-1 lead.
"A confident pitcher is a dangerous thing," said New York manager Mike Matheny. "That's what P.J. is right now."
