The Detroit Tigers topped the Atlanta Hammers, 4-2, in American League action at SunTrust Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Detroit pitcher Keone Kela. Tomás Mendoza recorded the save for Detroit, his 8th of the season. Atlanta drops to 14-17.
Al O'Mullan had a big 2-run home run for the Tigers in the top of the sixth inning. With Detroit leading 2-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from Kevin Key, the 3rd overall pick in the 2023 draft, and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Tigers on top, 4-0.
Kela attributed the win to his team's "focus and intensity."
