Astros Earn Late Win
|
Houston got a first-rate effort from pitcher Eric Guy, who frustrated Kansas City hitters en route to a 1-0 Astros triumph at Minute Maid Park. Steve Jackson, credited with the win in relief, is now 1-1. He allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. Bob Ramsey, who was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2019 draft, earned the save for Houston.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Steve McGuire came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Kansas City pitcher Edward Escoboza, he hit a full count slider for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Houston on top, 1-0.
"Eric was exceptional and he pitched with a purpose," said Houston manager Chris W. Carter.
With the win, Houston goes to 11-19.
