White Sox Beat Yankees, 6-2
|
Jimmy Stanley, who leads the AL in strikeouts with 41, had a strong outing for the Chicago White Sox against the New York Yankees at U.S. Cellular Field. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 6-2 win. In 7 innings, Stanley surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 5. He allowed 2 runs. Steve Peters was credited with the save for Chicago, his 10th of the season.
Mike Hurt drove in one run for Chicago. The 27-year old catcher had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and runners on 1st and 3rd, he broke a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off John Gant. It was his 7th RBI of the season.
"I think we did a good job of looking for pitches we wanted to hit and put good swings on them," said Chicago skipper Gary Cathcart.
The Yankees fall to 13-18 and continue their uninspiring start to the 2024 season.
