Tri-City starter José Zamora put a stranglehold on the Hudson Valley offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the ValleyCats to a 3-0 win. Picking up the save was Albert Vega, his 7th. With the win, Tri-City raised its record to 17-14.

The Renegades had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the ValleyCats going into the top of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old left fielder Byron Thistle came to the plate. Thistle hit a 2-run home run on a 1-0 fastball from Hudson Valley hurler Jeff Ellison. It was Thistle's 2nd home run of the year.

In comments to the Tri-City Herald, Thistle admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
