Scrappers Collect 7-4 Win Over Tigers
Due in part to shortstop Jonathan Thomas, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers chopped down the Connecticut Tigers, 7-4, in 11 innings. Thomas went 4-6 with a triple and 3 singles, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Their 19-20 record puts the Scrappers 4th in the Pinckney Division.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Jerry Hernández came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Connecticut pitcher Marlon Gibbs, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Mahoning Valley on top, 5-4.

In comments to the Mahoning Valley Daily News, Hernández admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
