Behind the hitting of Ron Sharpe, the State College Spikes stopped the Brooklyn Cyclones, 5-3. Sharpe was 3 for 3 with 3 singles and a walk for the Spikes. State College reliever Gus White snagged the win, upping his record to 1-0. Bob Morris shouldered the loss. Pete Purser earned his 1st save, after closing out the game.

Innis Haggart had a big 2-run home run for the Spikes in the bottom of the fourth inning. With State College leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from Bob Morris, who is tied for 7th in the NYP in complete games with 1, and punished it. The result was his 8th home run of the season, which put the Spikes on top, 4-1.

"Just trying to keep things simple and helping the team win any way I can," Sharpe told a local reporter after the game.

The first-place Spikes are now 27-14, the Cyclones 21-20.
