Miranda Helps Mahoning Valley Cruise to 12-3 Win
|
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers handed the Williamsport Crosscutters a sound defeat, 12-3, at Eastwood Field. Héctor Miranda, who is tied for 3rd in the NYP in extra base hits with 31, was a main contributor to the win. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 3 times and drove in 3 for Mahoning Valley. Dan Knight picked up the win, improving his season record to 3-2. He struck out 8 in 6 innings. Josh Houghton, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
An inflection point occurred with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. That's when Scrappers right fielder Derek Nabors hit a knuckle curve from Dave Lynam for a 2-run single. Just like that, Mahoning Valley was up, 3-2.
"We did more than enough to get the win," said Nabors.
With the victory, the Scrappers upped their record to 31-31.
