The Kingsport Mets topped the Burlington Royals, 9-3, in Appalachian League action at Burlington Athletic Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Kingsport pitcher Jeff Sheffield. The Mets, now 5-2, have played some good baseball in the early going.

Steve Hunt had a big 2-run home run for the Mets in the top of the second inning. With Kingsport leading 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a fastball from Vince Lyons and swatted a home run to right. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Mets ahead, 3-0.

"We've hit a rough patch right now," said Burlington skipper Bartolo Colon.
