Toronto Beats Oakland, 6-5
|
Fans watched the Toronto Blue Jays and the Oakland Athletics fight to the finish.
The Toronto Blue Jays picked up a win at Rogers Centre, knocking off the Oakland Athletics, 6-5. Starting pitcher Robert Stephenson was a big reason why. Stephenson, now 4-3, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Max Pearson picked up the save, his 2nd.
Toronto shortstop Nick Gordon contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 41st hit of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 6-1.
"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said Gordon.
With the victory, the Blue Jays upped their record to 20-20.
