A nice crowd turned out for a clash between the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes and Hillsboro Hops.

The Hillsboro Hops got a sterling performance from pitcher Bob Weaver, but the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes still prevailed, 7-2. Weaver threw 7.2 innings of shutout ball. Salem-Keizer, at 20-26, occupies last place in the West Division.

Salem-Keizer used the timely hitting of Tim McClain to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Volcanoes on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

In comments to the Salem-Keizer Daily, McClain insisted that he's not as disinterested as it often appears. "Haters will hate," he added.
