Hops designated hitter Jarred Combs left his mark on his team's 7-2 win over the Eugene Emeralds. Combs, who leads the NWL in runs scored with 49, was 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 3 times for Hillsboro in the contest. Jerry Rhodes got the win, improving to 1-4. He held the Emeralds to 2 runs on 5 hits over 8 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 5. The East Division-leading Hops are 30-21.

It could have been a different outcome for Hillsboro, had it not been for Tony Mendoza, the 22-year old shortstop . Mendoza contributed a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put Hillsboro up, 2-0.
