The Chicago Cubs rode a solid performance from 28-year-old starting pitcher Chris McCarthy to a win, beating the Texas Rangers, 4-1, at Globe Life Park in Arlington. In 6.2 innings, McCarthy surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Orlando Romero closed the game out for Chicago, earning his 9th save.

Chicago took a 3-0 lead on Kris Bryant's 1st home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Bryant hit in the top of the seventh, left Texas pitcher Roberto Cancio visibly frustrated.

"Obviously, you want to go out there and be good every time out," said McCarthy. "I take the ball every day with the same mindset."

Chicago is now 17-24. Texas is 19-21.
