Canadians Roll to 8-3 Win Over AquaSox
|
The Vancouver Canadians defeated the Everett AquaSox, 8-3, at Nat Bailey Stadium. Vancouver was led by 24-year old center fielder Pepe Ortega, who went 3 for 4 with a triple, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was 23-year old right-handed pitcher Darryl Wilson. He tossed 119 pitches over 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. The Canadians saw their win-loss record go to 38-30. At the same time, the AquaSox fell to 38-30.
Bob Benton, who is tied for 6th in the NWL in home runs with 8, took Everett hurler Mike Kirby deep in the bottom of the second. His 2-run home run put the Canadians on top, 2-0. In all, Benton had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It's the best feeling when you come through for your teammates," said Ortega.
