Yankees Win 2-1 Nail-Biter Versus Cyclones
|
There was never a dull moment in an extra-length game between the Staten Island Yankees and the Brooklyn Cyclones.
The Staten Island Yankees picked up a win at Richmond County Bank Ballpark, taking down the Brooklyn Cyclones, 2-1, in 13 innings. On the mound for Staten Island was right-hander Omar Padua. He played a central role in the triumph. Erik Green earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 3 innings. He upped his record to 3-2.
Staten Island got a knockout punch from Max Williams. The catcher hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the 13th inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
During his postgame press conference, Yankees manager Tyler Clippard told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
After today's action, Staten Island sits at 35-40; Brooklyn slips to 35-40.
