Bluefield Blue Jays starter Chris Hughes worked his magic, to help his team defeat the Princeton Rays, 4-1. Hughes yielded 1 run over 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 11 hits, walked 3, and struck out 10. His record improves to 1-0. The win boosted Bluefield to 10-9.

Bluefield used a timely hit from Mike Ryan to get the win. The third baseman stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 4-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"It was just a matter of executing," said Bluefield manager Jose Mejia.
