The timely hitting of Mitch Trees helped the Milwaukee Brewers down the San Diego Padres, 9-4. Trees went 2 for 4 with a home run. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Brewers. The winner was Curt Wilkerson in relief. His record improves to 3-0. Domynguos Venegas took the loss. The victory gives Milwaukee a record of 28-12.

Had Dave Thomas not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Thomas hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Brewers.

"We had some nice at-bats at the right time," said Brewers manager Doug Dascenzo.
