The Kansas City Royals topped the Houston Astros, 7-3, in American League action at Minute Maid Park. The standout performance belonged to Kansas City pitcher and Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, native Pedro Fernandez. The win elevated the Royals to 22-21.

Kansas City used a well-timed hit by Joe Washington to capture the win. The first baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Royals ahead, 4-1. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.

"Pedro giving us the start that he did was huge," said Kansas City manager Jim Tracy.
