The Elizabethton Twins beat the Johnson City Cardinals, 4-2, at Howard Johnson Field. The Twins got a fine performance from first baseman R.J. Lester, who went 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Elizabethton is now 31-31, while Johnson City is 26-36.

Lester had a game-changing home run in the top of the eighth. On a 1-1 fastball from Jerry Beck, he banged a 2-run home run to right, giving the Twins a 4-2 lead. It was the 16th home run of the year for Lester.

"This losing is getting old," said Johnson City manager Paul McAnulty.
