Blue Jays Get 7-4 Win Versus Burlington
|
The timely hitting of Luis Tovar helped the Bluefield Blue Jays down the Burlington Royals, 7-4. Tovar was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Blue Jays. Chris Hughes went 7.2 innings for Bluefield to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 4 runs. He scattered 4 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 12. His record improves to 7-3. Jake Cook nailed down the save.
The Blue Jays got a big at-bat from second baseman Cliff Watkins. For the game, Watkins was 1-4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fifth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a 2-run double. His 7th double of the season gave Bluefield a 6-4 lead.
"You win some, you lose some. I don't get too caught up in all that," said Tovar.
After today's action, Bluefield sits at 39-28, while Burlington falls to 40-27.
