Even as a kid, Deron Fernández said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Yankee Stadium, Fernández showed how well he learned that lesson.

The 24-year-old right fielder had 5 hits in 5 at-bats for the New York Mets, helping his team knock off the New York Yankees by a score of 10-3.

"They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did."

Deron Fernández singled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, doubled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Dan Ibarra in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
