Mariners Solve Aurora, 3-2
|
The Seattle Mariners picked up a win at Safeco Field, knocking off the Vancouver Aurora, 3-2. Starting pitcher Brian Gonzalez played a key role in the triumph. In 6 innings, Gonzalez surrendered 9 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Dominic Leone earned the save, his 5th, for the Mariners.
The Mariners got a big at-bat from shortstop Franly Mallen. For the game, Mallen went 1-3 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Seattle a 3-2 lead.
"I warned the team before the game," losing manager John Patterson told reporters, "that I'm wearing the same pair of undies until we win."
The Aurora have now dropped 7 straight.
