The Tampa Bay Rays had to overcome a fine effort from New York pitcher John Gant to win, 7-5, at Tropicana Field. Gant went 7.1 innings and allowed 3 runs. Tampa Bay pitcher Greg Strong earned the win, hiking his record to 3-0. Jake Bray suffered the loss. After today's action, Tampa Bay sits at 23-22; New York slips to 22-24.

Dylan Veeck aided the Tampa Bay cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the third baseman was 1 for 4.
