The Chicago White Sox got a superb performance from pitcher Ben Eckels, but the Seattle Mariners still won the game, 4-3. Eckels threw 6.2 innings of 1-hit ball. Vladimir Gutierrez was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Trevor Rosenthal. Earning his 13th save of the year was Eddie Muggleston.

Seattle took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, when Mike Hahn hit a clutch grand slam home run to bring Mariners fans to their feet.

Seattle manager Jeff Banister praised his team's "energy."

Seattle is now 25-24, 2½ games up in the American League West Division.
