Yankees 4-3 Winners Over Toronto
|
The New York Yankees did just enough to sneak past the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-3, at Yankee Stadium. New York pitcher Adys Portillo, in particular, had a standout performance. In 8.2 innings, Portillo surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 0. He allowed 2 runs. With the victory, the Yankees upped their record to 25-25.
The Yankees got a big at-bat from third baseman Israel Ávila. For the game, Ávila was 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with the bases loaded, he stroked a grand slam home run. His 8th home run of the season gave New York a 4-0 lead.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Toronto manager Don Mattingly. "But we decided not to take it."
