The Seattle Mariners had to overcome a fine effort from Houston pitcher Blake Snell to win, 5-3, at Minute Maid Park. Snell went 6.2 innings and allowed 1 run. Seattle reliever Derrek Barker picked up the win to move to 4-0. Jesús Mejía suffered the loss. Eddie Muggleston recorded his 16th save for Seattle.
Eric Caine came through with a big-time hit for Seattle. The center fielder smacked a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to give his team the lead, 5-3. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Seattle manager Jeff Banister. "It's usually not just one thing."
The losing streak for Houston has now reached 4 games.
