Blue Jays Get Hard-Earned Win
|
The Toronto Blue Jays picked up a win at Tropicana Field, knocking off the Tampa Bay Rays, 5-4, in 10 innings. Starting pitcher Lazaro Leyva played a key role in the triumph. José Amaya, who finished 3rd in the AL in strikeouts with 198 in 2021, was the winner in relief. His record is now 2-1. The losing pitcher was Josh Ingram. Trevor Rosenthal finished the game for Toronto and earned his 14th save.
Toronto relied on the bat of Alfredo Salinas to get the win. The left fielder produced a run-scoring ground out in the top of the tenth inning to put the Blue Jays ahead, 5-4. For the game, Salinas had 1 double and 1 home run in 5 at-bats.
"Big win," said Leyva.
The third-place Blue Jays have won 5 consecutive games.
