The Chicago White Sox withstood an impressive performance by Minnesota right fielder Artie Cochran to defeat the Twins, 4-3, at Rate Field. Cochran was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. The win puts Chicago at 29-24 this season.
Los Angeles, California-born Dominic Smith came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the seventh, with the bases loaded and the White Sox trailing 3-2, he hit a 2-run single to right to put Chicago on top.
Smith attributed the win to his team's "steely resolve."
