Cubs Beaten By Pirates, 3-1

Pittsburgh registered a win at PNC Park by beating the Chicago Cubs, 3-1. Pitcher Jim Reynolds was one reason why the Pirates triumphed. Pittsburgh reliever Frank Lopez was the winner. His record is now 6-0. Jon Hall took the loss. The win for the Pirates raised their record to 33-21.
Had Thad Brown not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Brown hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Pirates.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Pittsburgh manager Jose Mijares.
