The Milwaukee Brewers picked up a win at Miller Park, topping the Boston Red Sox, 5-4. On the mound for Milwaukee was left-hander Tim Hankins. He played a principal role in the triumph. The first-place Brewers have a one-game lead in their division.

Batting in the bottom of the ninth, 27-year old first baseman Jim Smith had a real shot to win the game. Boston pitcher Terence McCray was determined not to let it happen. But with one out, Smith hit a run-scoring single. The Brewers had a walk-off triumph.

"He who laughs last laughs best," Smith said, postgame.
