Marlins Win, 4-2, Versus Toronto
|
The Miami Marlins knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays, 4-2, in National League action at Rogers Centre. Miami pitcher and Stony Brook, New York, native Steven Matz had an outstanding performance. The win belonged to Robby Parkinson in relief. His record improves to 2-2. Juan Pérez took the loss for Toronto. Joe Malone picked up the save for Miami, his 5th of the year.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Sam Jones? The two-time All-Star Jones stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put Miami up, 4-2. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"Steven was able to locate to both sides, up and down," said Miami manager John Patterson.
With this game in the books, Miami is 26-31, Toronto 26-30.
