The Boston Red Sox defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 5-3, in American League action at Progressive Field. Boston pitcher Ted Burton had a standout performance. Earning his 15th save for Boston was Terence McCray. Boston is now 27-30, Cleveland 25-34.
Boston used a clutch at-bat from Dan Combs to capture the win. The catcher hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the third inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"We take it day by day here," said Burton, "and today was a good one for us."
