|
The Tigers faced a stiff challenge from Chicago pitcher Ben Eckels, but persevered to claim a win at Rate Field. The final score was 2-1. Eckels went 6.1 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win was credited to 26-year old left fielder António Peña in relief. His record improves to 4-0. Ben Eckels took the loss. Tomás Mendoza got credit for the save for Detroit. It was his 21st of the year.
Luis Aquino, who is rated as the 60th best prospect by BNN, had a direct impact on the outcome. Aquino contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Detroit up, 2-0.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Chicago skipper Morgan Ensberg.
The American League Central Division-leading Tigers are 35-23.
