Nationals Suffer 5-3 Home Defeat
|
Chicago and Washington duked it out and the Cubs came out victorious.
The Chicago Cubs picked up a win at Nationals Park, topping the Washington Nationals, 5-3. On the mound for Chicago was left-hander Jose Paulino. He played a principal role in the triumph. Paulino got the win, improving to 6-4. He gave up 4 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. He allowed 3 runs. Orlando Romero was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 12 of 16 save opportunities.
Stephen Piscotty had a big 3-run home run for the Cubs in the top of the first inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he sized up a screwball from 29-year old right-handed pitcher Joey Gatto and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Cubs on top, 4-0.
"Jose is a gamer," said Chicago manager Warren Schaeffer.
By defeating Washington, the last-place Cubs improved to 26-35.
