Kansas City Defeated By Giants, 4-3
|
The San Francisco Giants dealt the Kansas City Royals a 4-3 loss at AT&T Park. Dominic Smith, who is tied for 9th in the NL in home runs with 10, was the star on offense. He went 2 for 4 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Chris Buckhout, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Chet Greene collected save number 1.
Had Héctor Rodríguez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, Rodríguez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Giants.
"I like to lead by example," said Rodríguez. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
The second-place Royals dropped to 29-32.
