Nájera Blasts Mustangs, Voyagers Take Game 1, 11-3
|
The Great Falls Voyagers started the Round 1 in dominant fashion, blowing out the host Billings Mustangs at Dehler Park by a score of 11-3 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Voyagers shortstop Manny Nájera was 3 for 5 with 2 home runs, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4.
Great Falls won the game in part because of Greg McFarland. The designated hitter ripped a bases-clearing double in the top of the second inning to put the Voyagers ahead, 4-0. For the game, McFarland had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," McFarland told the Great Falls Daily. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Dehler Park in Billings.
