Royals Edge Tigers, 2-1, to Open WC

The Wildcard Series got off to a quiet start, with the traveling Kansas City Royals taking a low-scoring, 2-1 win over the host Detroit Tigers. Kansas City right-hander Scott Blewett was marvelous at Comerica Tigers Park. The Royals now hold a 1-0 lead in the best-of-3 series.
Kansas City used a timely hit from Ismaldo Rodriguez to get the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Royals ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Every loss hurts," said Detroit manager Robert Carson. "But this was a tough one."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Comerica Tigers Park in Detroit.
