Both offenses were relatively subdued at Tropicana Field. Fortunately for the Tampa Bay Rays, though, Osvaldo Leme was able to deliver in the clutch. He was 3 for 4 with a double and 2 singles. He drove in 3 runs, to lead his team past the Boston Red Sox, 3-1. With the win, Tampa Bay pushed its record to 34-31.
Leme had a game-changing double in the bottom of the eighth. On a full count fastball from Ed Goodwin, he banged a 2-run double to right, giving the Rays a 3-1 lead. It was the 15th double of the year for Leme.
Afterward, Rays manager Joey Cora was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
