The Kansas City Royals picked up a win at Kauffman Stadium, downing the Oakland Athletics, 5-3. On the mound for Kansas City was right-hander Scott Blewett, who played a pivotal role in the win. Oakland's current losing streak is now 4 games.

The game-ending blow was delivered by Wilfredo Rodriguez in the bottom of the ninth. That's when he hit a 2-run home run off 28-year old left-handed pitcher Tommy Meyers to win it for Kansas City and cause the home crowd to erupt in celebration.

"Very pleased with the effort on our side," said Rodriguez.
