The performance of Cristián Colón proved critical in helping Boston beat New York, 8-7. The Red Sox right fielder went 4 for 6 with a home run and 3 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. Terence McCray, who led the NL in saves with 39 in 2022, picked up the win in relief. Jake Barrett took the loss for New York. With the victory, the Red Sox upped their record to 41-31.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the tenth. With two out, Colón hit a fastball from Shawn Harris for a run-scoring single. The Red Sox, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"It was a test of wills," said Alvin Morman, the Boston skipper. "I'm glad we came out of it with a win."
