Phillies Lose Big to Mets, 12-2
The New York Mets stopped the Philadelphia Phillies, 12-2, at Citizens Bank Park. The Mets got a big game from Jim Hayes, who was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. New York goes to 35-40, Philadelphia to 39-36.

Joe Ellis had a big grand slam home run for the Mets in the top of the third inning. With New York leading 3-0 and the bases loaded, he sized up a forkball from R.J. Hansen, who finished 2nd in the NL in innings pitched with 207.1 in 2024, and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Mets on top, 7-0.

"I thought we played a nice game," Ellis told the New York Daily News. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
