Rockies Fall Short, 5-4, at St. Louis
The inspired effort of Colorado third baseman Arturo Hernández was not enough to prevent a loss, 5-4, to the St. Louis Cardinals. Hernández was 2-3 with 2 home runs and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. St. Louis reliever Ken Nicholson picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Doug Foster absorbed the loss. Colorado is now 1-2.

Juan Álvarez drew 1 walk in 4 trips to the plate for St. Louis. The 29-year old shortstop had a key at-bat in the bottom of the eighth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 3-3 tie with a run-scoring walk off Doug Foster. It was his 1st walk of the season.

Álvarez told reporters after the game: "Close wins always feel extra good."
