The Philadelphia Phillies downed the New York Mets, 2-1, at Citizens Bank Park. Stellar pitching by Luis Miguel Rivera had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who led the NL in ERA with 2.68 last year, handcuffed his opponent all game. With the win over New York, the Phillies improved to 40-37.

Philadelphia took a 2-1 lead on Ernesto Almirón's 14th home run of the season. The solo home run, which Almirón hit in the bottom of the eighth, left New York pitcher António Seroseres visibly frustrated.

"Tough loss," said New York manager Mike Matheny. "Tough one to swallow."
