Angels Come Up Short at Toronto, 2-1
|
The Toronto Blue Jays downed the Los Angeles Angels, 2-1, at Rogers Centre. Stellar pitching by Jon Moscot had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 5th in the AL with a 1.08 WHIP, handcuffed his opponent all game. Moscot, the winner, moves to 3-9. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 2 walks. Juan Pérez earned the save, his 6th in 12 tries.
The Angels had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Blue Jays going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 25-year old right fielder Dan Prince came to the plate. Prince hit a run-scoring double on a 3-1 fastball from Los Angeles hurler Derek Henderson. It was Prince's 8th double of the year.
"I was trying to do what I do, go out there and compete," said Moscot.
The Blue Jays now have a record of 34-45 with the win over Los Angeles.
