Behind the hitting of Joe McGrath, the Atlanta Firebirds stopped the New York Mets, 12-1. McGrath went 1-3 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once for the Firebirds. Simon Mercedes was the winner. He's now 6-7. The loser was 24-year old right-handed pitcher Edgardo Castillo. The win has Atlanta at 32-47.

With Atlanta leading 2-1 in the top of the fifth, McGrath hit a curveball from Edgardo Castillo for a 3-run home run. It was his 5th home run of the season and put the Firebirds ahead, 5-1.

"We didn't play well enough to win," said New York skipper Raul Dominguez.
